Meet Our Presenters

Karen Flavelle – Ross Flavelle Insurance and Financial
Services Inc

Karen specializes in helping her clients to find new opportunities for tremendously more wealth, benefits and protection without additional risk, and can demonstrate this within their current cashflows. She specializes in recovering costs and opportunity costs that her clients don’t know are getting away from them and brings this back into their financial model strategically to create more than the clients knew was possible. She brings new insights and a true “Wow” experience to the planning and discovery process. She is an expert at helping her clients to discover these things by verifying their validity together. She has a special expertise in the professional and executive planning arenas and especially enjoys working with people who want take action to make their own life, the lives of those they love and their community tremendously better than it was before they met her.

Karen uses web-based meeting technology in her business and hosts almost all of her meetings over the internet.

She graduated from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, and was awarded the highest recognition at her campus for outstanding contributions and leadership to University life with the Principal’s Award. She enjoys sprints, running obstacle races, reading and playing pick-up ball hockey, basketball or chess with her two boys. She lives in Mississauga with her husband Blair and their children.

Marcel Godbout, CPA, PBA – Bishop & Company

Marcel is a Saint Mary’s University grad and received his CA designation in 1996. He is a tax specialist and joined the Firm in 2008
with over 15 years’ experience in providing financial advice and business counsel to clients from a wide range of industries.

Originally from Quebec, Marcel is raising his young family in the Valley and has been an active volunteer with the Wolfville Business
Development Corporation. Marcel sits on the CPA Canada SMP Tax Committee. Marcel advises clients in estate and succession planning, corporate organization and effective tax planning strategies tailored to meet their specific requirements.

Angel Meinecke, FPBA, MFA

Angel is the President and senior accountant at her firm, Celestial Accounting Services Ltd. in Slave Lake, AB. She received her accounting
designation in 2002. Her association granted her a Fellow distinction in September 2008 and the highest honor – Lifetime Achievement in September 2015.

Not only are her clients extremely important to her, but so is her professional society where she has served on the Provincial and/or National Board of Directors since 2004. Angel is currently the national President of the PBA Society. She earned her MFA
(Master Financial Advisor) in November 2013. She does the tax planning and year-end preparation as well as consulting on succession plans, US Tax returns and real wealth management.

Michael McCormack, BA, CFI – MNP LLP

Michael is a senior manager in the Investigative and Forensic Service line of MNP LLP. He is responsible for investigations across Canada. He works with First Nations, corporations, public organizations on employee misconduct, risk assessments, due diligence and harassment cases. Mike is a graduate of Carleton University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Criminology with a major in Law and Sociology. Mike is designated as a Certified Forensic Investigator.

Before joining MNP, Mike served for 24 years at the Ottawa Police Service, where he worked in municipal and federal policing roles. He has experience investigating complex international financial crimes including a variety of fraud schemes, money laundering and proceeds of crime offences.

Mike was previously in charge of the Integrated Payment Team at the Ottawa Police and was responsible for the direction and investigation of payment card offences and large-scale identity theft offences. Mike was designated by the Ontario Court as an expert in the identification of fraudulent payment cards and identification of fraud schemes. Mike served as the Anti-Organized Crime Coordinator for the European Union Police Mission in Bosnia and is experienced in dealing with international and national law enforcement agencies. Mike was seconded to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Integrated Proceeds of Crime unit where he
served as a team leader and manager.
